Some wedding days just feel special from the moment you arrive—and Katelyn and Paris’s wedding at Shay Meadows Ranch in Big Bear, California, was exactly that. As a photographer, you can sense it right away: the calm energy, the genuine connection, the kind of love that doesn’t need to be staged to shine.
Getting Ready in the Mountains
The day began tucked away in the quiet of Big Bear, surrounded by towering pines and crisp mountain air. Katelyn and Paris got ready separately, both spaces filled with soft light and anticipation. These are some of my favorite moments to photograph—the small, in-between glances, deep breaths, and subtle smiles that happen before everything officially begins.
Katelyn’s details were timeless and intentional, while Paris’s quiet excitement was impossible to miss. There was such an ease to the morning, like the day was unfolding exactly as it was meant to.
A Ceremony Set in Nature
Shay Meadows Ranch is a dream location for photography. The open meadows, rustic textures, and mountain views create a naturally stunning backdrop without ever feeling overwhelming. For Katelyn and Paris’s ceremony, nature did most of the work—soft light filtering through the trees, a gentle breeze, and a peaceful stillness that made the moment feel incredibly intimate.
From behind the camera, their connection was undeniable. The way they looked at each other, laughed together, and held hands during the ceremony made photographing them effortless. These are the moments I live for—the ones that don’t need direction because they’re already perfect as they are.
Portraits That Felt Like Them
After the ceremony, we slipped away for portraits, and this was where the magic really came alive. Big Bear offers so much natural variety, and Shay Meadows Ranch gives you space to slow down and just be. Katelyn and Paris moved so naturally together—walking, talking, laughing—allowing me to capture images that felt honest and full of emotion.
Nothing felt rushed or forced. Just two people, newly married, soaking it all in.
A Celebration Worth Remembering
As the sun dipped behind the mountains, the reception unfolded into a warm, joyful celebration. Golden light turned into cool evening tones, and the ranch transformed into the perfect setting for toasts, dancing, and meaningful moments shared with loved ones.
From a photographer’s perspective, it was one of those evenings where every frame told a story—laughter during speeches, tight hugs on the dance floor, and quiet moments stolen between songs.
A Day We Won’t Forget
Katelyn and Paris’s wedding at Shay Meadows Ranch was the kind of day that reminds me why I love what I do. Beautiful location, yes—but more than that, a love that felt grounded, joyful, and completely real.
Photographing and videoing their wedding wasn’t just about capturing how it looked, but how it felt. And that feeling—warm, peaceful, and full of love—is something I’ll carry with me long after the last photo was taken.
